UNCG

For all computer needs including computer carts and faculty/staff office computers, please contact:

Chris Wright, Computer Technology Consultant

Please contact Chris by calling 6-TECH. This is a policy that is mandated by IRIS. Since Chris is a split funded associate with the School of Music and IRIS, this is important. IRCS Policy # 6 states: “All client requests for technical service should be initiated via the 6TECH system. All technicians log their work in according to IT’s practices for incident and project management. In addition, this is helpful to getting your call handled in the most efficient and effective manner possible.” If Chris is out, or unavailable to fulfill your request in the appropriate time, this will alert the Help Desk that someone else needs to be sent out to assist. You may email Chris, but this will only serve as a secondary reminder to him after you have alerted 6-TECH. In addition, if there is a major crisis - you may contact Amy Moore at 334-5889 and she will alert Chris or someone in IT of the issue.

When you contact the HELP desk, you should, give as much information as possible for the technical staff to determine the severity of your needs. Please be honest in what your problem is and understand that there are some problems that have greater priority than others. Chris will build his schedule on the following needs: Lab issues first, then major computer problems for faculty, or staff, then minor computer problems for faculty and staff and finally maintenance or routine software upgrades, etc. Please know that if Chris is working on your computer and gets a call that we have deemed to be of a higher priority - he may have to leave your project and return once the critical issue has been resolved.

For all audio and recording needs, please contact:

Dennis Hopson, Audio Technician

Please contact Dennis by emalling him at dwhopson@uncg.edu or in an emergency - you may also leave him a voicemail at 334-6164. Email provides Dennis with a precise record of your request and allows him to handle your request more efficiently.

Dennis has a flexible shift; therefore, you will need to give him ample notice of any recording needs you may have.

Dennis is responsible for all stereo playback and recording equipment that is in the building (not attached to a computer). This includes purchasing, installing, maintaining, trouble-shooting, inventory and use instructions for systems in classrooms, audio portions of Room 217, rehearsal rooms, teaching studios, faculty offices, recital halls, and portable systems in room 222 (audio carts). Please contact Charlie by emailing him at c_angel@uncg.edu or leave him a voicemail at 334-4309.

Please email or phone him regarding times that your studio is free. In addition, he will be setting up some times and contacting you to see if the scheduled time will work., He needs 3-4 hours slots. A complete service ideally needs to be done once per semester to maintain piano quality. The work would include careful action regulation, voicing, repairs and cleaning.

For recital hall performances, please inform Charlie in advance which piano you will be using - (Kawai or Steinway) or if you are using both or the harpsichord, the fortepiano or all of these instruments. This helps him to provide better tuning service to you.
