A-Licensure Completion Program in Music Education for Lateral Entry Students

The A-Licensure Completion Program is designed for non-traditional students who hold a baccalaureate degree in music but who have not completed the required competencies required to apply for initial A-Licensure yet who hold a full-time music teaching position and temporary licensure.

The A-Licensure Completion Program in Music Education for Lateral Entry Students complies with the Guidelines and Competencies as established by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NC DPI). The A-Licensure Program in Music Education is approved by the NC DPI, and the music education program within The Teachers Academy at UNCG is approved by NCATE. The course of study is designed individually for every student who enters the program within the parameters of the curriculum approved by the faculty.

The A-Licensure Program in Music Education does not lead to a degree, and therefore, candidates are not subject to graduation requirements. Students, however, must be fully admitted to the program and must comply with the identical rules and regulations required for any enrolled student. UNCG is not responsible for application for temporary A-Licensure and subsequent renewals; normally the local school system assumes this responsibility. A student must be registered continuously as defined in the UNCG Bulletin to continue in the program without reapplication and reconstruction of the curricular program of study.

Degree seeking students in the BM in Music Education Program and the traditional A-Licensure Completion Program in Music Education and who will complete the student teaching practicum are not eligible for enrollment in the courses offered specifically for the Lateral Entry Program.
